My name is Heather; I am a 25 year old Southern Belle, despite not actually even having been born in the United States. My loves include animals, good books, better bourbon, tulips, poppies, pluff mud, the smell of a paper plant, mountains, tidelands, trees, backpacking, kayaking, cooking, tattoos, and bluegrass, among other things. I dislike yellow mustard, coconut, and being cold.
In 2013, I founded a dog rescue for herding breeds. You’ll often find me at a party, sitting with the resident dog or cat and avoiding mingling. Beneath the surface, I’m your average early-twenties socialite; I love having a good time, I love being busy, and I don’t function well if I’m not in a constant state of being slightly overwhelmed.
The thoughts here are my own; I may toe the line between classy and temper tantrums. This blog is a means to release the storm of thoughts I tend to keep bottled up too much, for too long. My words may offend some, but you can’t make everyone happy all of the time.
Let it be said that my rants are directed only toward the idiot humans I interact with, never the animals I’ve devoted myself to caring for. Save dogs first, bitch about it later.

Does the Boykin Spaniel pictured on your recent post need a home? Thank you. Martha
No ma’am that’s my little princess.
Read your article, well said, the Rescues are different in Canada, they take any dog for any reason. Most are helped by people who foster for the rescue and always out of their own pocket. We have the same problems however, puppy mills, so many in Quebec that it is incredible. Puppy mill capital. I have 2 petitions online, one asking the mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre to ban the sales of animals in the stores of Montreal, the other is demanding LesPAC.com (a list like Craigs List) to stop selling animals on their site. They are mostly from puppy mills and they use it to dump their extras. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/251/993/447/lespac-cesser-de-vendre-des-animauxlespac-stop-selling-animals/ http://www.thepetitionsite.com/891/365/878/montreal-cesser-de-vendre-des-chiens-chats-dans-les-magasins/ the petitions are in both french and english. If you agree would you sign and share?

The President of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, Jane Hoffman, really appreciated your article, “The Love/Hate Relationship of Social Media and Rescue.” She asked me to pass along an invitation to meet her for a thank-you dinner/lunch/coffee if you’re ever in New York City.
Where abouts are you located? I’d love to volunteer and help out if you’re not too far! I skimmed for an address/city but didn’t find anything listed on your page.
Thanks!
Samantha
The Carolinas!
I love you so hard right now!!!! Your article basically sums up my rescue life. Thank you for having the balls to say it how it is. ❤
Heather, I am a volunteer with a rescue kennel in Texas, and we found your articles to be so spot on. Could we have permission to link one of your posts, “What you didn’t know about rescue (but really need to)” from our own web page? Thanks so much.
You absolutely may – thanks for asking!
Hi Heather: I volunteer for a small rescue in Canada. Your article “What you didn’t know about rescue (but really need to)” is so appropriate I was wondering if we might use it in our Monthly newsletter that goes out to all of our volunteers, foster families and adopters? Thank you!
You certainly may!
Thanks so much.
